Robin Huff Kingsbury

If you have met Robin for even a moment you know how much vibrant life she is filled with. The energizer bunny has got nothing on her. You cannot help but be affected by her energy. Yes, she is that do-it-all-just-because-she-can-person. She cares for so many people around her on a daily basis whether it be her own children (Joseph 21-living away from home in the Navy with his wife Alex, Jacob 20, Summer 9, and Calvin 7), Her husband David, her elderly mother and father in law who live in her home and she provides daily care for, her stray 'adopted' family members or basically anyone who needs a helping hand. A lot of the time...OK, let's be honest-MOST of the time she does this at the sacrifice of her own self-care. Her husband David works full time but so does Robin as a full time seamstress from her home. She has had her fair share of trials in life but she has adopted a positive outlook of feel it, deal with it, and then let it go. A little story behind Robin's Diagnosis: The last year has been a little abnormal. She was tired more often, sick more often, and to top it all off she was going through what she thought was a solid start to menopause. Considering the pace she keeps this was also attributed to stress and good ole exhaustion. She had a painful lymph node in her groin that progressively grew larger and more painful as the year progressed. Her normal doctor's and annual appointments did not register any red flags besides just being exhausted and having an immune system that couldn't keep up. But the lymph node just became too painful to deal with and her doctor decided to remove it on 11/27/2017. The lymph node they removed was purple (normally pink) and was immediately sent for a biopsy. The next day she got THE call. Cancer. The next steps from there were a blur of doctors' appointments, blood draws, CT scan, ultrasounds, pelvic exams, additional biopsies, genetic testing, oncologists, and finally the full diagnosis. Stage IV Ovarian cancer. As well Endometrial Cancer. Evil, ugly, nasty cancer that had metastasized to her lymph nodes. The treatment plan: Robin will be undergoing intensive surgery on Friday December 22, 2017 at the University of Michigan Hospital. They will remove her cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries and a few additional lymph nodes. She will not be able to return home until after either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Then after they test all the nasty cancer bits they get out of her she will start chemotherapy 3 weeks later. She has been doing her best to employ her warrior outlook on taking this diagnosis head on. But she is also tired, sick, losing weight, and struggling. She is not normally the one to say she needs help. It's the Huff stubbornness in her. But in this fight, she is going to need all the help she can get. She will need her village. She has stopped taking any new work. So they will quickly become a one-income household that is trying to tackle cancer-not the Christmas they were hoping for. Any donations, even if only a few dollars will go towards helping them make it through the day to day. Grocery money, utilities, gas money (extra trips to and from Ann Arbor for treatment).
