WHO: My name is Aliza and I am writing to ask for assistance on behalf of my dearest friend, Ely.
WHAT: Ely is seeking funds for gender-affirming chest surgery.
WHY: Gender and gender expression are major parts of who we all are, how we move through the world, and how others perceive us. This procedure is far more critical to my friend’s physical and mental wellbeing than those of us born into bodies that align with our assigned gender can imagine. Body dysphoria prevents Ely from pursuing big, life-changing opportunities like auditions and job interviews, but it also keeps him from doing everyday things like using a public restroom or trying on a new pair of jeans. Chest surgery will remove the main source of this dysphoria and will allow him to live his best life.
HOW MUCH: No part of the surgery is covered by Ely's insurance. The total cost of the procedure is $7,615, which covers the surgeon’s fees, facility fees, anesthesia, and pathology. All funds raised through this campaign will be attributed exclusively to this cost.
WHEN: Fees are due in full on September 7th of 2017, for an operation scheduled on the 19th.
