How I know Elsy
My friend Elsy is from Haiti and works at the New Seasons Market in Hillsboro. We speak french together, and she is so lovely. If you ever shop there, you will know her! She exudes warmth and positivity.

The Hurricane
In 2016 Hurricane Matthew completely devastated Haiti. Her family and community have been in a state of desperation ever since. Specifically, her family does not have a roof over their house and have been using a tarp ever since the storm. I told her that we must try a Go Fund Me fundraiser to help with the cost since hurricane season comes in July, and it is coming up fast. She was embarrassed, but agreed that anything will help.

From Elsy: “After the hurricane I learned that the roof of our house was gone, a cousin had passed away, and so many of our neighbors lost all that they have to their names. In April I was able to visit my family and hometown and the devastation, desperation, and challenges of my people haunt me constantly.

When I was there, with the money that I brought, we were able to put nine pillars around the house to support the cement top when we put it in. Below is one of the pillars that we installed.

How you can help:
My sister estimated that it will cost $3000 US to provide a roof, and my absolute hope is to do this before hurricane season hits again in July. Any help is so appreciated.”

Thanks so much in advance. Any small amount you feel that you can give to help literally get this roof over their heads will help immensely.
