I'm the Veteran Services Coordinator for The Eloy Veterans Center, which recently opened on Sep. 5th, 2014, is a Community Operated Center that offers services to Veterans, Military Service Members & their Families, including; access to Veteran Services, referrals to health services, & employment & traning. We also provide emergency services like transportation to medical appointments, temporary housing, & food boxes. Our Veterans Center is a place where Veterans and their families come to volunteer for community events that honor our service members and their families.
Our goal is to send a group of 10 local Veterans to Washington D.C., who have never had the opportunity to visit the memorials that honor them and would not be able to go on their own.
In a very short time this group of Veterans have been transformed by the new Center and overwhelmed by the show of support from the community. The majority of them are Vietnam Era Veterans that are not accustomed to being honored for their service. We plan to document the trip to share with the local schools and community groups that support us when we return.
Our trip is planned for the first week in June with hopes that our Korean Era Veteran who is receiving treatment for stage 4 COPD will be ready to travel with his buddies at the Center.
Thanks in advance for helping us show them we appreciate their service and sacrifice!
