Elliott, age 9, has faced many physical obstacles due to his Cerebral Palsy, a neurological and physically limiting disorder that makes him unable to be independent. Elliott is unable to walk, crawl, verbalize his needs due to his cerebral palsy. He is 100% dependent upon his caregivers for all of his needs, from transportation to bathing and feeding.
Despite all the medical obstacles we have faced with his cerebral palsy physically, our biggest challenge has been the cost of accessibility!
As Elliott continues to grow, it is important that his entire family look to the future for anything that could be on the horizon. Having a reliable van and an accessible home would give us that peace of mind while not going into financial ruin.
Our fundraising efforts have been ongoing while we have utilized an older, hand-me-down mobility van and now Elliott's entire family have joined together to cross the finish line as we approach closer to our goal!
Elliott has numerous long distance doctor appointments, therapies and enjoys visiting friends and family. Having a reliable vehicle would allow his family to get him to where he needs to be with peace of mind for years to come! The mobility van we are looking to purchase is a special, reconstructed van that has lowered floors, a ramp or lift and can easily and comfortably accommodate Elliott on all types of travels.
Although their are waiver programs available through Dauphin County, the funding is limited and the need and the community is so vast that they are unable to provide enough assistance to everyone in need. Due to this, our family has decided to be proactive with fundraising to offset the cost of his immediate needs.
It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a several communities, family, and friends to raise a child with special needs.
Any additional funds not used for a purchase of a van will be used for home modifications in the very near future. We appreciate all your support!
