In January of this year Elliot was diagnosed with bone cancer. He began treatment immediately, and continued to work as he began chemo, radiation and steroid therapies.
He sold his beloved purple Peterbilt (heart breaking) but continued to work, picking up runs as he was able, while continuing chemo and radiation treatment. Working is no longer an option for Elliot, however, as the combination of chemo, radiation and steroids inevitably meant that it is no longer possible for him to drive truck.
Anyone that knows Elliot would agree that he is a man that would give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it. He may not be one to ask for help, but he would be the first one to offer it.
Elliot is scheduled to begin treatment in September at the Cancer Treatment Centre in Vancouver. He is required to pay his way there, as well as to pay for the expense of staying down there for the three to six months that he will be undergoing further treatment. Naturally, he will want the support of his wife while he is undergoing the next phase of treatment.
Being self-employed means no extended health benefits, so all of the upcoming expenses will be out of his pocket. Like many of us, his income last year disqualifies him from receiving financial support through the provincial and federal government programs. This means that he will be responsible for the expenses incurred during treatment while down in Vancouver, in addition to the expenses of maintaining his residence in the Okanagan!
This page is being set up for us to all rally behind Elliot and support him as much as we can financially so that he will be able to go to Vancouver for treatment and just focus on getting well.
