Ellie's Wheels

Donation protected
Meet Ellie, she is 2.5 years old and has Bilateral Asymmetric Cerebral Palsy. Ellie would love a power wheelchair to help her move around and be able to play with her sister and friends.

She was born prematurely at 26 weeks alongside her twin sister Grace. Despite being born 3 months early she had a relatively straight forward journey through NICU and came home 4 weeks before her due date.

Unfortunately at 5 months old Ellie caught flu and this resulted in her being admitted to intensive care where she had to be ventilated to keep her breathing. She fought hard for 2 weeks and once again returned home to her family.

2 months later she had an MRI scan of her brain and it was found that she had suffered a stroke, the left and central parts of her brain were damaged.

The news was heart breaking, our little girl who had fought so hard now had an unknown future laying ahead of her.

Ellie's diagnosis meant that we had no way of knowing if she would ever be able to walk, talk, eat or live an independent life. However Ellie's previous strength and determination had stood her in good stead and she was once again going to show us how much fight she had.

Over the last 18 months Ellie has learnt to crawl, eat, talk and pull herself up to stand at a table or the sofa.
But Ellie can't walk, she is currently learning to stand and take small steps while using a supportive frame.

Ellie is a vibrant happy little girl who loves to sing and dance (in her own little way) but she wants to run and play with her sister and friends just like any other child but unfortunately her legs won't let her do this.

For Ellie to 'walk' she needs a power wheelchair, to be specific a Tiny Trax power wheelchair. Ellie knows her own mind and wants to be able to do what she wants, but being in a mobility chair pushed by us does not give her the freedom she craves and she gets frustrated that she can't keep up with her sister. The power chair will mean that Ellie can manoeuvre herself around and play and have fun with her friends.

The Tiny Trax chair is designed to grow with children and will last until she is 10 years old!

Ellie had a trial in the Tiny Trax chair and within 5 minutes had figured out the controls and was doing donuts with the biggest smile on her face!

As parents we have accepted that Ellie may never walk independently (if her previous record is anything to go on she will make it happen) but this doesn't mean she has to miss out on fun, her Tiny Trax chair will become her legs and allow her to 'run' and have fun.

We as a family would be eternally grateful for any donation that you could make to our fund.
To be able to see that smile on our daughter's face and watch her laugh and have fun & independence every time she uses her chair would mean the absolute world to us.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please share this with everyone you know to try to help us reach our target.

If we are lucky enough to raise money above and beyond our target amount, this will go towards upkeep of the chair, servicing costs, and any additional add-ons that Ellie may need in order to adapt the chair to her specific requirements.
