Lost everything Ellicott City flood

Donation protected
My name is Julia and I live in a town near Ellicott City MD. My family and friends live in Ellicott City.

As many of you know, the recent floods that devastated Ellicott City, left many people with irreparable damage to their homes and businesses, some of whom suffered 100% loss of property. My aunt and uncle are counted among them.

My family members were (luckily) away on a trip out of town. During that time the flood waters crashed directly into the business below their apartment on Main Street Ellicott City. While everyone is still recovering and picking up the pieces, there are not many details about what happened to cause this building to be so much more damaged than others.

So far, we believe this business happened to be on a curve of the road, causing the force of the flood to bank directly into the building, gutting the entire structure and its foundation until, finally, breaking through the rear wall to rejoin the rushing river. Their apartment now stands on sticks and has begun shifting dangerously, on the verge of collapse.

Though their belongings were, we assume, untouched by water, the structure has been condemned and will be demolished, as any attempt at property recovery has been deemed unsafe. All of their personal treasures, a lifetime of memories, and irreplaceable family heirlooms of recently departed loved ones, will be lost.

A few years ago, on main street there was a terrible fire. The building that burned was attached to my Aunt and Uncle's apartment. They suffered damage and losses during that fire but there home remained in tact… as did their lives. This flood loss now seems so much more painful because, after making it through the fire like that, who would imagine that something else could possibly happen to their home? I can only imagine what it would be like, to survive that, only to be devastated by this.

This blow has rocked our community to the core. Ellicott City is a tight community of kind and talented individuals. It's filled with friends and family members close to our hearts. There seem to be terrible losses everywhere I turn, but now it's not just a news segment, it's happening in our backyards. This really hits home for me and my family in more ways than one. If anyone out there reads this, and has been touched by this story, please give what you can to help my Aunt and Uncle have a means to restart their life and lift some of this terrible burden. If you have no means to donate, please help by forwarding this link to everyone that you know.

This means so much to my family. I would like to see my aunt and uncle buy new furniture, kitchen supplies and appliances, clothing, food, the first months rent on a new home, and whatever else they may need. We would all be touched and forever gratefull.
