Dear friends and family,
As some of you may know, this summer I was admitted as an in-patient at the Ellen West Clinic for eating disorders in Mexico City after being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. Like most patients, I was very scared at first and I did not know what this treatment would mean for me. Perhaps one thing that troubled me the most was the fear of accepting help, though I had lived with this illness for three years. For a lot of people, especially for a stubborn teenager like myself, this is very hard to do. Anorexia can control a person, though we'll always say that we have it under control. It was for this reason that I was skeptical of being admitted as a patient, but it ended up being the best summer of my life. Not only did Ellen West change my life, it saved my life.
Anorexia nervosa is the most deadly mental illness, and there are too many suffering from this and other eating disorders who go untreated.
I was lucky enough to be able to be treated at the Ellen West clinic, but many girls aren't. During my time at Ellen West I learned of girls who needed the treatment but who weren't able to afford it. This is why I am reaching out to you now to ask for a donation of any size to help pay for the tuition of future Ellen West patients who don't have the resources to pay for their treatment. Thank you all very much for your help!
