Hey Guys!! My name is Ellee Emery. I am student at Liberty University and I am raising money to pay for my service dog! I have a genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS III), and also Postural Orthostatic Tachychardia (POTS). The EDS is a collagen defect in my body, causing mostly joint problems, but many others as well since, ya know, collagen is in so many things. The POTS causes me to have an accelerated heart rate every time I stand up, which causes me to become very dizzy and sometimes pass out. It also causes heat intolerance and dizziness when I stand for too long. For the majority of the past year I had to use a wheelchair due to hip dysplasia. This past march I had major hip surgery to correct it. You can read more about my journey on my blog and facebook page here
. I have been considering a service dog for many years. A service dog would help me in many ways including pulling my wheelchair, helping me stand up, balance when I am dizzy, helping me up hills and stairs, and can also be trained to help with my anxiety.
Since I had hip surgery I have felt like God is leading me to “bloom where he plants me.” As a result I moved to Virginia to attend Liberty University. Since moving here, God has done some pretty crazy things in my life. He has showed me he loves me everywhere I go, even through little signs. He has also helped things fall into place. The disability system at Liberty has been far more helpful than at my previous school, and it has truly been a blessing. I have been looking into getting a service dog for a couple years now, but things never lined up right for it to happen. Now things have been falling into place so easily. I sincerely believe this is God’s plan for me, but I need some help to make it happen.
Since I am a college student and have these health problems, I am not able to work right now. I adopted a poodle from a breeder and am training it with some help from a few trainers I recently met. The total cost of owning, training, and vet bills for this dog would be $10,000. This is more than I can afford. I need $4,000 by March to be able to continue his training !! Any little amount will truly help. So, if you feel moved in your heart, please help me make this thing happen!
