Let me start by telling you a bit about our sweet girl. Ella is 10 years old. She loves to read and make crafts. Ella is a gymnast and is always flipping and cart wheeling about. She’s a quiet, inquisitive, sweet, thoughtful and bright girl. Ella lives in Franklin, TN with her Mom, Dad, younger brother, Ben, their two dogs, and any number of cats and chickens.
Ella’s diagnosis started out as a perceived gymnastics injury above her left knee in October. A few weeks after her pain began she suffered a minor fall at home on the stairs which resulted in a broken femur and subsequently led to a diagnosis of Osteosarcoma local to her left femur.
Ella received her first chemo treatment the week of Thanksgiving and will undergo 6 total rounds of chemo. Each round is 5 weeks for a total of 30 weeks of chemo treatments. After her first two rounds of chemo Ella will undergo surgery to repair the damage the cancer has caused to her femur. Surgery will likely be in February. She will take 4-6 weeks off from chemo and then will restart chemo after recovering from surgery to hopefully complete treatment by the end of summer.
Ella will be admitted to the hospital to receive her chemo treatments overnight so Courtney will be with Ella in the hospital 10-15 nights each month. As a result, Courtney will only be able to work intermittently throughout Ella’s treatment. We are raising money to help our dear friends fill in the financial gaps resulting from lost wages and increased medical costs as they focus on healing for Ella.
Ella’s family is hoping she will be done with chemo in time for her 11th birthday in August so she can start middle school with her friends. Today, Ella is working to adapt to her new treatment schedule and limited mobility. She’s enjoying quality time with her family and visits with her friends. Mike and Courtney are so very thankful for your continued thoughts and prayers as they continue this journey.
