Ella’s Birthday and DryJan Fundraiser for Refuge

For my birthday this year I’m asking people to donate to Refuge a UK based charity for victims of domestic abuse, I am also going dry this January to raise money.

As it’s my birthday weekend on the 1st I will actually be doing Jan 3rd - Feb 3rd.

There has been a massive increase in reports of domestic violence since the first nationwide lockdown started, with the charity ‘Refuge’ reporting a 50% rise in calls to its helpline, and The Counting Women Dead project identifying 16 deaths, including children, between the day lockdown began (March 23) and April 12. 16 deaths in a matter of weeks to domestic abuse!

With the ongoing lockdowns across the UK, I think this topic is very important right now. Home is not a safe place for many people. Although domestic abuse is common it should not be normalised. If someone confides in you about their relationship do not normalise it and do not judge them. Tell them they are not alone and urge them to seek help in a safe way.
