Urgent appeal – please help London Russian Community Leader Alexander Suscenko
Hello everyone – we are here to ask your help in supporting our dear friend, at a very difficult time.
Sasha's mother, Elizabeth Margaret Suscenko (born Lundie), passed away on 9 June 2020 following a long illness, bravely borne.
Many of you will have fond memories of her warm hospitality, as she loved to welcome Sasha’s friends, frequently opening her home to members of the Russian community.
Elizabeth had distant Russian ancestry and was a tremendous Russophile over the past 60 years, yet the scale of her generosity was hidden from most.
She was dedicated to supporting pre-revolutionary Russian culture in Britain. Just one example is that she single-handedly bankrolled the Russian Summer Ball for years, giving five-figure sums, because she believed so passionately in the importance of sharing the history and traditions of her son's Russian heritage. Without her, our community in London, Europe, and the rest of the world would be the poorer; she shaped our own lives as we grew up, creating an irreplaceable sense of community and camaraderie.
Now, Elizabeth’s sudden passing leaves Sasha in desperate need of financial assistance – both to give his mother the burial she deserves, and to allow him to keep their family home.
