Elin the Brave

Background:

My cousin, James, and his wife, Kim, are amazing parents to FOUR girls: Maggie (16), Olivia (14), and Elin and Everly (2). They are originally from North Carolina, but moved to St. Augustine, Florida to enroll their oldest child in the School for the Deaf and Blind. James and Kim have been rockstars as parents since the first one blessed their world. Together, they provide love and strength for their daughters and bravely overcome all challenges they encounter.

Current Situation:

In February, James and Kim noticed Elin was limping, though she had no fever, pain, or bruising. After some tests, their sweet little girl was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).  She was admitted to Wolfson's Children's hospital in Jacksonville for an initial week for stabilization, port placement, and chemotherapy. Elin's current treatment plan will span three years, with James and/or Kim traveling back and forth to and from Jacksonville at least twice a week. She must also take various medications and chemo daily.

As a result of the treatment, Elin is immunocompromised and has been hospitalized twice more for fevers. The first round of chemotherapy rendered her precious body weak, with neuropathy, and unable to walk.

They are a strong family, and this little girl is a fighter, but their situation is difficult. Fortunately, James and Kim have insurance. Still, there remain enormous costs associated with Elin's health crisis, particularly those related to medicine and traveling and increasing co-pays. Even with James working full-time, the expenses will only grow more burdensome.

How We Can Help:

Hopefully, we can work together to help relieve some of that financial pressure for this sweet family. Gas, car maintenance, food, and other travel-related costs should not be a concern to James and Kim as they face the challenge of helping their baby girl beat leukemia. And if we can support them in managing bills related to co-pays and medicines, that's even more energy they can focus on their family. Please consider offering a donation. Small or big. Anything would be an important act of kindness and love that would mean a little less worry. And they could certainly use a break from the worry.
