Elijah is a beautiful 4 month old baby boy diagnosed with Spinal Muscualr Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. This is a genetic condition in the form of Motor Neuron degeneration (remember the ice bucket challenge?) that exlusively affects infants and is 100% fatal. There is a glimmer of hope - Elijah is a candidate for a trial drug in the research phase, however there is a possibility he may get the placebo and not the active drug.
