I am sharing this on the behalf of one of my best friends of 15 years, Eunice Barrera:

As if the year 2020 hasn't been tough enough. On December 4th, the Barrera's got devastating news. Their beautiful, intelligent, and outgoing 6-year-old (whose smile lights up a room) had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia(ALL):

In October, Eliana started complaining of a hurt wrist. Unsure of how it happened, her parents(Juan & Eunice) took her to the hospital, where they gave her a cast. A few weeks later, she could barely walk on her right leg. This prompted Dr's to run blood tests that came back abnormal, and Eli needed to be hospitalized a few days later.

Eli will be transferred to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center(MSKCC) in Manhattan(one of the top cancer centers in the nation) to get the best care possible.

Eli and her family will be in and out of the hospital for the next two years for treatment, which will undoubtedly be life-altering. She will undergo chemotherapy on 12/14/20.
Although the Barrera's are thankful Eli will be receiving treatment at MSKCC, unfortunately, her two-year treatment will not be fully covered by insurance.

No parent should have to worry about financial burdens while your child goes through extensive cancer treatment to survive!

There is never a good time to hear your child has ALL. The Barrera's are soon expecting their 4th child in 2021. They understand that having a newborn, taking care of their other children (Noah 4, Christian 10), and managing Eli's treatments will be no small feat.
