I’ve updated the Facebook and Instagram page to start sharing businesses and creators. Please follow @ElevateLowell for more updates and share it with someone that may be interested. The photo of myself on the left includes the certificate I received as being a recipient of the Tom Leggat Opportunities Fellowship Award for 2017. This grant has jumpstarted a journey of networking with amazing people and potentially collaborating with creators that I never would have had the chance to meet. Please read below and consider being part of my journey to Elevate Artists.

The Idea:
ELEVATE Lowell is a performing arts and music show with a variety of shops and brands that showcases entrepreneurs and creators in Lowell, MA and surrounding areas. It is an opportunity for artists to promote themselves and network with other individuals or businesses. Target date is September 2018. This will be an all ages event.

Who I am:
Current resident, business and communications student, and an active community member in the city of Lowell, MA.

Where the idea came from:
I give a lot of credit to the organizations in my community that I was able to participate in as a teenager. The teen programs at Lowell Community Health Center hosts many youth events that create awareness with themes that target issues within the community such as substance abuse, domestic violence, and STIs.

My interest in the arts was influenced by the Angkor Dance Troupe when I started dancing at 8 years old. I've learned about Cambodian culture which has helped me get closer to my family and understanding my own cultural roots.

Growing up soft spoken and shy did not make it easy to speak my mind. These organizations as well as traveling to Coachella and Warped Tour have taught me to express my thoughts through positive outlets such as dancing, fashion, drawing, and writing. I feel extremely blessed to have had peers and mentors who appreciated and understood me as the person I wanted to be.

Why this matters:
These creators and entrepreneurs enrich Lowell. For a small city on the East Coast, we have a lot of talent to celebrate!

My commitment is based on the next generation of kids that may not have the opportunity to find their voice in their families and communities. My commitment is based on giving people chances to try something completely out of the box and put themselves out there. My commitment is based on inspiring others to take positive risks and push boundaries.

Why I need your help:
To pilot this event, a lot of costs will be paid for out of pocket. Finding sponsorships and donors will be used to process rental fees in making this show possible. It all starts with me.

Future goals:
Lowell continues to grow culturally every year and it's an amazing feeling to be part of that. I'd love to expand this event and host as many artists as possible annually. More goals will be set after the pilot event and will be shared as it progresses.
