Eleni Manoli Fund

Hello Friends! Please help Eleni Manoli collect funds for her surgery. She suffers from a rare genetic disorder called neurofibromatosis (NF) that has only recently been recognized. Originally described in Japanese patients, it consists of multiple cutaneous schwannomas, central nervous system tumors, and other neurological complications, excluding hallmark signs of NF.  These tumors usually occur in nerves near the spinal cord or along nerves elsewhere in the body. Some people with neurofibromatosis type 1 develop cancerous tumors that grow along nerves. These tumors, which usually develop in adolescence or adulthood, are called malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors. 

Eleni is a mother of a seven year old girl and has been diagnosed with neurofibromatosis since 2002 at the age of 16. She has had 3 surgeries in Greece but due to her relapse and worsening of her condition she was unable to continue her treatment in Greece and her family had to find a special neurosurgeon in New York, NY. In 2014, she was successfully operated at NYU Langone medical center and removed a few tumors. In 2015, the Doctors attempted to remove a tumor on her right hip joint, but did not continue as the she could end up paralyzed.  In October 2016 Eleni informed the Doctors of severe pain on her right leg and after examination a new surgery was required on 1/30/2017. After submitting all the required documents to National Health Care System and booking flights to come to NY, the committee rejected her case and is now sending her to Germany. 

9 Hugs Organization has  supported Eleni since 2014 and throughout the years that she has come to New York to get operated and will make every effort to stand by her side this time around.
