<div>Seit mehr als 4 Jahren wird diese <strong>Lebensfreude</strong> nun schon <strong>auf die Probe gestellt</strong>, da Elenas Krankheit mit unvorstellbaren, und seit Beginn der Erkrankung immer stärker werdenden <strong>chronischen Schmerzen</strong> einhergeht.

<div>Aus einem anfänglichem, nur bei Belastung auftretendem Stechen im linken Sprunggelenk und Unterschenkel, wurden über die Jahre rund um die Uhr anhaltende Schmerzen, die von Medizinern <strong>höher als Amputations- oder Geburtsschmerzen</strong> eingestuft werden (McGill pain scale). Diese erstrecken sich mittlerweile über Elenas gesamtes linkes Bein, von den Zehen bis in die Hüfte.

<div>Neben dem Hauptsymptom Schmerz, haben Betroffene von chronischen Schmerzerkrankungen häufig zusätzlich mit einer Vielzahl von „Begleitsymptomen“ zu kämpfen. Dazu zählen in Elenas Fall Depressionen, Angststörungen mit Panikattacken, chronische Erschöpfung, Migräne, Schlafstörungen, Konzentrationsschwäche, innere Unruhe, Reizempfindlichkeit, Körperschemastörung, Schwindel, Ohnmacht, Übelkeit und einige mehr.

<div><strong>Wie kam es zur Erkrankung?</strong>
</div>
<div>CRPS wird als Ungleichgewicht und <strong>Fehlfunktion des vegetativen Nervensystems </strong>verstanden. Die genaue Ursache ist bis heute nicht vollständig geklärt, da es sich um eine seltene und somit wenig erforschte Krankheit handelt.
</div>
<div>In der Regel wird CRPS jedoch durch ein Trauma wie einen Knochenbruch, eine Prellung, operative Eingriffe oder auch durch Bagatellverletzungen wie Kratzer ausgelöst. Je früher die Erkrankung erkannt und behandelt wird, desto höher sind die Chancen auf einen positiven Verlauf.

<div>In Elenas Fall ist der Auslöser auf eine <strong>harmlose Sprunggelenksverletzung</strong> vom Mountainbike Fahren im Sommer 2018 zurückzuführen.
</div>
<div>Nach einer Ärzteodyssee von 1,5 Jahren und unzähligen Krankenhausaufenthalten erfolgte, leider viel zu spät, die die <strong>niederschmetternde Diagnose - CRPS</strong>.

<div>Seither hat Elena <strong>jede erdenkliche</strong> schulmedizinische wie komplementärmedizinische <strong>Therapieform durchlaufen</strong> und all ihre Kraft, Zeit und Geld in die Chance auf Heilung gesteckt. Hier ein kleiner Einblick in bereits durchgeführte Maßnahmen:

<div>All diese (meist rein symptomatischen) Therapien blieben bisher <strong>ohne den geringsten Erfolg</strong>. Aus schierer Aussichtslosigkeit zog Elena, trotz enorm geringer Erfolgschancen, zuletzt eine Amputation des gesamten linken Beins ernsthaft in Betracht und führte bereits Erstgespräche mit verschiedenen Kliniken.

<div>Die genaue Summe ist von den individuellen Behandlungsplänen und der Länge des Aufenthalts abhängig. Dieser beträgt mindestens 13 Wochen jedoch sind uns auch schwere Fälle bekannt, die dort ein halbes Jahr in Behandlung verbracht haben, bis sie Schmerzfreiheit erreichten.

<div>Daher ist das erste Zwischenziel dieser Spendenaktion, das Erreichen des notwendigen Betrages für 13 Wochen <strong>Aufenthalt</strong>, inklusive <strong>Flügen</strong>, <strong>Unterkunft</strong> vor Ort sowie der 2,9% Transaktionsgebühr für Gofoundme.

<div><strong>Elena has already gone through every conceivable therapy and is considered beyond treatment. Her last chance for a healthy and pain-free life is a special treatment in the US. To make this dream come true, Elena needs your help!</strong>

<div>Elena is a registered nurse, 26 years old and lives near Cologne, Germany. She loves nature, animals and outdoor activities. She is an incredibly kind, caring and loving person. Someone who loves life and can take pleasure even in the smallest of things.

<div>This zest for life has been put to the test for more than 4 years now, as Elena's illness is accompanied by unimaginable chronic pain that has been increasing ever since the onset of the illness.

<div>From an initial stabbing pain in the left ankle and lower leg, that only occurred under load, pain has developed over the years to an unimaginable never ending chronic pain, which doctors classify higher than amputation or birth pain (McGill pain scale). That pain now extends over Elena's entire left leg, from the toes to the hip.

<div>In addition to the main symptom of pain, those affected by chronic pain disorders often also have to contend with a large number of "accompanying symptoms". In Elena's case, these include depression, anxiety disorders with panic attacks, chronic exhaustion, migraines, sleep disorders, lack of concentration, inner restlessness, sensitivity to stimuli, body schema disorders, dizziness, fainting, nausea and some more.

<div><strong>How did the disease come about?</strong>
</div>
<div>CRPS is associated with <strong>imbalance and malfunction of the autonomic nervous system </strong>resulting in disability, impairment, chronic pain, and functional loss.
</div>
<div>The exact cause has not yet been fully clarified, as it is a rare and therefore little-researched disease.
</div>
<div>Usually CRPS is triggered by trauma such as a broken bone, a bruise, surgical interventions or even minor injuries such as scratches. The earlier the disease is recognized and treated, the higher the chances of a positive outcome.
</div>

<div>In Elena's case, the trigger can be traced back to a <strong>harmless ankle injury</strong> from mountain biking in the summer of 2018. After a doctor's odyssey of 1.5 years and countless hospital stays she got <strong>diagnosed with CRPS</strong>. Unfortunately way too late.

<div>Since then, Elena has <strong>gone through every conceivable</strong> form of <strong>treatment</strong> from both, conventional and complementary medicine and put all her energy, time and money into the chance of healing. Here is a little overview of treatments Elena already run through:

<li>Drug treatment (all drug groups; steroids, bisphosphonates, anticonvulsants (gabapentin, pregabalin), opioids (morphine), ketamine)

<li>Multimodal pain therapy, inpatient &amp; outpatient (physiotherapy, ergotherapy, psychotherapy, nutrition, relaxation, medication)
</li>
<li>Invasive measures (ketamine infusion therapy, nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulator implantation, procaine injections, autohemotherapy)
</li>
<li>Hypnotherapy, osteopathy, TCM, therapeutic fasting according to Buchinger, intestinal cleansing, change in diet, naturopathic medicine

<div>All of these (mostly purely symptomatic) therapies have so far remained <strong>without the slightest success</strong>. Out of sheer hopelessness, Elena recently seriously considered amputation of the entire left leg and has already had initial talks with various clinics.

<div>But now a window of opportunity opened for Elena and she has one last chance to end the daily agony and get back her old, active and carefree life.

<div>Due to numerous success stories from the international pain community, Elena came across the Spero Clinic in Arkansas, USA . This clinic offers chronic pain patients a <strong>holistic</strong> and <strong>tailor-made treatment concept</strong>, which is <strong>unique</strong> in this form <strong>worldwide</strong>. The clinic staff is constantly working to better understand the origin of diseases such as CRPS and even supposedly hopeless cases from all over the world have already been <strong>successfully treated </strong>here.

<div>Since the costs for a treatment at the Spero Clinic are not covered by health insurance, Elena needs your help!

<div>The exact amount depends on individual treatment plans and length of stay. This is at least 13 weeks, but we also know of severe cases that spent half a year being treated there until they were free of pain.

<div>Therefore, the first intermediate goal of this fundraiser is to reach the necessary amount for a <strong>13-week stay</strong>, including <strong>flights</strong>, <strong>accommodation</strong> and the 2.9% Gofundme transaction fee.
