Elena Bonner's Medical Expenses

I created this GoFundMe to raise money for my student and friend,
Elena Bonner. About two weeks ago, Elena was interviewing for a summer nursing internship at Fox Chase when she experienced dizziness and began to have difficulty speaking. She was rushed to Cooper, where they discovered she had suffered a brain bleed. Since that time, she has had multiple bleeds, and endured a six-hour brain surgery. But, as anyone who knows her knows, you can't keep Elena down, and even though she is facing a second surgery in the next 48-hours, as of this morning, she was awake, insisting on feeding herself, and telling her loved ones "Stop hovering!" 

All of my students are special to me. But Elena is a light in the world. Unfailingly responsible, truly brilliant, full of boldness and snark, Elena stomps through the world in her combat boots, kindly reminding all of us what it means to be the change you wish to see in the world, and to love one another above all things. Whether she is drawing me a hilarious cartoon about Freud on her midterm exam, not-so-subtly reminding me to eat less meat, or poking me as hard as she can to keep me from laughing during an awkward moment, Elena reminds me, daily, why I got into teaching, and why I stayed. It was a joy and an honor to watch her deliver her first lessons to our class, this semester, as a teaching assistant. I know she's got so many more in her. 

Elena's father died suddenly and tragically in the summer of 2017, so this latest event has been especially challenging for her family. Any help you can give is hugely appreciated.
