I have created this go fund me to raise money for my PhD research project on the effects of large herbivores and river flooding on waterbird breeding.
As this study will be conducted internationally the costs quickly add up. I have included a break down of the budget below, with total transparency. First however, I would like to tell you a little about the benefits of my research, provide you with a little more info and let you know how you can help!

Project Info
This study will explore the interactions between large herbivores and colonially breeding waterbirds in the Okavango River and the Chobe River, Botswana. The methods used in this study and the relationships found will provide ongoing direction for using waterbird populations as indicators of river health, and testing the long term sustainability of river systems, affected by a range of impacts, including pollution, and upstream building of dams and diversions. These flows are essential for a large range of organisms, while also providing ecosystem services (e.g. fishing, water quality, tourism), therefore determining an effective indicator to monitor river health and thereby support species conservation of a range of taxa is of high importance.
Budget Breakdown
$2000 - Return flight Sydney - Botswana.
$4800 - Weekly expenses for hiring a local knowledable research assistant/ boat captain who can transport me up and down river to assess breeding sites. This will cover a research assistant wage and boat expenses for two field trips of 4 months.
$2000 - Accommodation in Botswana for two fieldtrips of 5 months, based on $50 AUD a week. The rest I will cover personally.
$2500 - Assistance in buying a car in Botswana which will be used for the two fieldtrips to transport myself, my equipment and my research assistant between field sites.
