Eleanor's Non-Surgical Scoliosis Treatment

Donation protected

Hello,

My name is Beverley and I am fundraising for my 13 year old daughter Eleanor, to have private, non-surgical treatment for Scoliosis, which was first diagnosed in February 2020. At that time she was offered no advice, or pain relief, despite us stating that mere Calpol was not working for her. I ended up getting her Arnica tablets, which have helped her. She was then referred to a consultant for further analysis and finally seen in July 2020 (delays were caused because of lockdown). Her curve had become worse and she was told that the very basic brace that the NHS provide, would be no good for her and that the only treatment available was surgery. We were told that there was a long wait for that and that we would also have to wait some time for the further diagnostic appointments that would be necessary for going down the surgical route. We were given only a poorly described sheet of A4, with stick figures to explain some exercises, that we then realised were for use after the operation, not before. Many months passed and appointment letters arrived late in the year for in December 2020, but these kept being changed because of lockdown. Finally in March 2021, I had become very fed up with these constant changes and we started to look more into the operation, at the pros and cons into what is a major operation. Our research then led us to find out that there are non-surgical treatments available - a specialised form of physiotherapy called the Schroth Method and custom made braces that have been able to treat even greater curves than Eleanor's. We also found out that a person with scoliosis shouldn't sleep in a particular way, as this makes the curve worse, and to sleep in different ways to help - we had never been told this by the NHS (another failure) and once she started doing this in March 2021, it already started to make a difference. The Schroth Method has been shown to be very effective at treating and reversing Scoliosis, as are the custom Gensingen Braces. However these are only available from private clinics and the treatments are quite costly, hence the fund raiser. The treatment course costs £3200, plus we need travel costs to get from our home in East Anglia to the clinic in Kingston upon Thames, London, by train and taxi. The initial consultation via Skype is free and this is being booked for very soon. My son has kindly loaned me £300 for the initial face to face assessment (which costs £240) and the fares there.

Eleanor and I hugely appreciate anything, that anyone can donate to help us raise our target amount, however small.

Thank you so much. We would also appreciate if you can help share this fundraiser. Please see the links below to find out more about Scoliosis, the Schroth Method for non-surgical treatment, the Gensingen Brace and the private clinic we wish to attend.

God Bless.
