Eleanor Freedom Fund

Our dear friend, Eleanor , is in the process of breaking free from an abusive marriage to a man in Argentina. Under extreme duress, she was forced to marry him, and was held hostage for over two years, suffering inexplicable abuse in every way imaginable. While held hostage, she had no access to money, identification, her cell phone - even her bed was taken from her. He used her hearing disability to control her as well, cutting off access to hearing aides and medical assistance, leaving her incredibly isolated and vulnerable. She has since managed to escape from his grip and start her life over. However, she is still under a significant level of threat. Furthermore, she is suffering from severe brain trauma (brain hemorrhaging and a brain mass) caused by this man, and needs extensive medical procedures to begin to fully heal from the wounds inflicted by her abuser. This fundraiser exists to raise money so Eleanor can find true closure from this traumatic period of her life. Lawyers in Argentina have told her an annulment will cost her about $6,000USD, but this does not include the costs for travel back to Argentina, as well as any additional costs which may arise in the divorce process. Until she has true freedom from her husband, she remains under a real legal, physical, and emotional threat. Furthermore, this fundraiser exists to help Eleanor get the medical care she needs to physically heal from the wounds inflicted by her abuser and lead a whole, healthy life. Though those expenses aren't 100% known, they are already beginning to add up, and Eleanor's part-time job is not sufficient to help her pay all these additional expenses. Anyone who has spent even one minute with Eleanor has experienced the overflowing love and joy she exudes. The life and energy she brings to our community can't be fully expressed. Her life has only just begun, and our heart is for her true freedom. She is overwhelmingly grateful for all the little things her new life has to offer - from her cat to her music to making friends and sleeping in an actual bed. We want to shower her with the love that she so generously showers on all of us, because there is no one more deserving of that love.Every dollar raised will support this beautiful woman in her fight for freedom, and every dollar raised beyond the goal will go to providing her with the medical procedures necessary to find physical healing from this overwhelming trauma.
