My name is Jawwad Stephens I’m 27 years old. When I was 12 years old I developed high blood pressure. When I was in 6th grade I was told I would have to go to Charleston SC for a biopsy on my kidney. Their I was diagnosed with stage 1 chronic kidney disease (CKD) because of high blood pressure being extremely out of wack and putting pressure on my kidneys. 3 years ago I got the phone call that will change my life forever “Jawwad your kidneys are at working at 10%. You’ll need to be placed on dialysis.” I remember first telling my mom then later on telling my girlfriend who’s now my wife didn’t want anyone to know. I broke down crying with so many thoughts running around in my mind. But I remember my mom telling me like it was a few hours ago “this battle is not yours, you’ve been fighting this for a long time if this is what’s going to help you to stay alive..” and it was those comforting words that I went away still crying on the inside and sometimes bursting in tears but still holding on to my hope and faith in God.
