Elaine Sochacki's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
In early May of 2017, Elaine was experiencing pain in her side while working. Thinking this might be a kidney stone, she went to Good Sam to have some testing done. After a CT scan was completed, she was admitted for more testing, due to a tumor that was located between her urethra tube by her bladder. After many tests (including a very painful bone marrow sample) and hospital stays, Elaine was diagnosed with Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma and she was determined to be ITP.

From May to July, Elaine underwent Antibody Rituxen treatments (similar to chemotherapy) to help get her platelets up prior to surgery to remove the tumor. These treatments alone cost up to $25,000 each- although luckily only a portion is owed. She is experiencing hair loss as well as pain in her joints due to these treatments, and other medications she is required to take.

In early July, Elaine underwent her first surgery to have the tumor, as well as the majority of the right side of her bladder removed at Miami Valley Hospital. Prior to her surgery, she had to have platelet transfusion’s completed, as the previous treatments were not working as expected. She was able to go home on July 8th, and begin her long journey to recovery.

At the end of August, Elaine was experiencing a galloping heart rate and shortness of breath. She was admitted to Miami Valley Hospital, and a mass was found in her heart. An Elite Vena Cava filter was placed in her chest to assist in filtering out her blood and she was placed on blood thinners. Dr’s needed time to pass to determine whether the mass was a blood clot, or a tumor. If it shrank, it was a blood clot. If not, they would need to look at options of open heart surgery to remove the tumor. On October 18th, Elaine had a second Echo, which determined that the mass had not shrunk.

During this time, Elaine took four months off of work, causing a financial burden on their household. Against medical advice, she returned back to work part time to assist in paying her medical bills. Now that the mass has been determined to be a tumor, she will need to stay home to prepare for surgery and recovery. Elaine's surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28th. Her recovery time is currently undetermined.

Elaine’s children are asking that during this time, we open our hearts to give to a family in need. We are asking for a total donation of $5,000 to assist in paying Elaine and Keith's household bills, as well as her medical bills.
