As some may know, Elaine Portzel was admitted to the hospital in late August. Her recovery from congestive heart failure has been a journey that has drained her emotional energy and her bank account. She requires supervised care (which comes out of pocket) while she waits for life-saving heart surgery. To keep her heart healthy and powerful (to overcome blockages in her arteries and groin), she requires special heart-healthy food, which is not covered by her Meals on Wheels service, or her $15/month food stamp allowance.
