Hi! I'm Valerie and this page is for my wonderful parents. My father was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer 10 years ago, he remained clean until his cancer came back five years ago and he's been on chemotherapy ever since. Chemo has robbed my dad of any ounce of youth he had left. He has had every side effect you could imagine, but luckily my mother has been an excellent nurse and companion through all of it!
This past week my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. It has moved into the bones in her pelvis and her lymph nodes. She will need at minimum, 6 months of chemo, followed by a double mastectomy and then radiation.
My parents will be going through Chemotherapy at the same time. Leaving them both pretty weak and helpless. My mother will continue to work in her department in the hospital a few days a week to maintain the health insurance that gets them both the life saving treatment they need.
We, as a family have a long road ahead of us. Even with insurance, there's plenty of accrued cost and it's a scary time. I don't want them to have to worry about paying bills, buying groceries, really I don't want them to have to worry about anything other than beating this disease, getting better and each other. If you are able to give, I ask that you do, any little bit helps...and I honestly couldn't thank you all enough.
