Elliott "EJ" Wright is a very loving, happy and joyful 3 year old whom has been fighting for his life and beating all odds since birth. Born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (a rare congenital heart defect that has no cause or cure). EJ has already successfully had and recovered from 2 open heart surgeries. His 1st when he was only 5 days old and his 2nd when he was 6 months old . 5 months ago we received the worse news ever. We were told that EJs heart function has decreased tremendously and that he will NEED a heart transplant.
Being that EJ is now impatient at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston, SC he's listed as a 1A status on UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing). Which means he is at the top of the list and a heart can come at any day or it can take up to a few months. If he were to go home his status on UNOS would change to a 2B which means EJ would have to wait even longer for a new heart, he'd have to be on at least 8 different medications, (some that'll have to be given 3 times daily) and being that South Carolina doesn't have any pediatric home health companies EJ would have to be seen by a hospice company for his Broviac (an IV catheter port that goes from a vien in his neck to his heart and comes out through his chest) for dressing changes and weekly blood draws.
BUT what majority of you don't know is that when EJ was hospitalized 11 weeks go we weren't initially here for heart related problems... EJ was set up with a Hospice home care nurse for his PICC (an IV catheter port that's through his arm and goes to his heart). EJs nurse wasn't properly cleaning his PICC which led to a blood/yeast infection in his blood stream which caused EJ to be taken off UNOS for 2 weeks until the infection was out of system.Me or EJs Care Team don't want to take any chances with another Home Health company because he's so "fragile". Ive been told to prepare myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually because its a 99% chance that EJ will be here for the next months and the next few hoildays!!
Now the time has come for me to ask all of you for help and you have no idea how that makes me feel. I thought that I could do this on my own but I admit that I was so wrong. Any and every donation is greatly appreciated. Help EJ as he continues to beat the odds and surpass the medical hurdles set up against him.
