Flooded Home Repairs

As a single mother of a 10 yr old and 18 month old baby, I left town to avoid the usual power outages and road closures that typically come with hurricanes in Houston. As I walked out with my children and 2 days worth of clothing, nothing could have prepared me for the devastation that has unfolded across my hometown. 

After a week of not being able to return home, we finally made it to our house only to find that our one story home had filled with 8 inches of water ruining all of our furniture and most of our appliances and creating a hazardous environment full of mold and sewage. My family and I have been in the home for 10 years and didn't have flood insurance as we were not in a flood zone. We are in good company as 80% of those impacted by Harvey don't have flood insurance. 

FEMA is working with us to get the home sanitized and remove safety hazards, but it will be a long, hard and expensive road to turning it into our home again. 

We need funds to pay for expenses not covered by FEMA or insurance. Our entire floor has to be removed and with the sheer volume of people needed to rebuild, it could be months before we're able to return home. In the meantime we are displaced and having to live in a nearby apartment.

Please help us survive this and not lose our home by helping us reach our goal. We plan to use the funds to cover extensive repairs and replacement of furniture, toys, books and other items for my children.
