Kelly’s Story
Kelly Ventura is one of our own. He is loved by many for his sense of humor and fun-loving personality. He is adored by his family and is a true buddy to his friends. Kelly plays football and basketball at Willetts Middle School in Brunswick, Ohio where he bleeds blue and white. His loyalty and love for the game are displayed on the football field and on the basketball court.
On November 24th, something happened that no one expected. As Kelly was preparing for the upcoming basketball season, he fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury while setting up his basketball hoop. He was life-flighted to Metro Health Medical Center and has begun a long journey to recovery. Kelly fractured his skull, broke several bones in his jaw, and tore both his right and left carotid arteries. Up to this point, Kelly’s will to live and the skills of his amazing doctors have helped him to overcome dangerous brain bleeding and swelling. His arteries have been stented and we are praying for healing. He is also suffering with 6th nerve palsy, hearing loss and impaired vision. Kelly is a fighter and continues to battle through each day.
Kelly lost his father, Jim, in a car accident on November 24th, 2007, exactly 10 years prior to Kelly’s accident. Kelly continues to show great strength and determination with the help of God and Jim, Kelly’s guardian angel.
Kelly’s mom, Sabrina, is a single mother. She has taken a leave of absence from work to be by her son’s side. She is truly a pillar of strength and Kelly’s rock. Sabrina has been with her son every step of the way. Kelly will continue to persevere, but he is likely to need more surgeries and months of therapy in order to recover.
Kelly inspires all of us. We cannot wait to see him up and about again with a tall stride in his step and a smile on his face. Please consider helping this amazing young man and his hard-working family. Sabrina is a strong and capable woman, who has never asked for help, but expenses will soon skyrocket and help is needed to aid Kelly’s journey to recovery. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
