<div><strong>Help Us Build a Sustainable Future for the Children of Ghana Town, The Gambia</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The Eivor Björkman Elementary project aims to transform lives by building a new elementary school in Ghana Town, a vibrant fishing community in The Gambia. This school will provide a safe and inspiring learning environment for hundreds of underprivileged children, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive and build brighter futures.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The project isn’t just about education—it’s about sustainability and community. The school will be constructed using rammed earth, a sustainable and cost-effective building method that utilizes locally available materials, creating a long-lasting and environmentally friendly structure. Recognized for its significance, this initiative was officially designated as an ASF (Architects Sans Frontières) project in 2022.

</div>
<div><strong>Why This Project Matters</strong>
</div>
<div>In 2011, a school was established in Ghana Town to serve children who had no access to quality education. Despite the community's efforts, the current facilities are inadequate:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The classrooms are in fragile, temporary structures vulnerable to termites, floods, and harsh weather. Essential amenities like a playground, cafeteria, and teachers’ lounge are missing. The lease on the existing property has been terminated, leaving the children without a school. Without intervention, these children face an uncertain future.

</div>
<div><strong>Our Vision</strong>
</div>
<div>In 2018, the Eivor Björkman Foundation purchased land to create a permanent school for Ghana Town. Partnering with architectural firms Detail Group and EarthLAB Studio, we plan to build:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Eight classrooms for up to 380 students. A multipurpose assembly hall, also available for evening classes for adults. A functional and safe schoolyard for play and community events.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This school will not only offer education but also serve as a community hub for lifelong learning.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Progress So Far</strong>
</div>
<div>The land has been secured, and the architectural blueprints are complete.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Master’s students from Chalmers University of Technology have conducted vital on-site analyses, including surveying the land, assessing environmental conditions, and sourcing local materials.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Detailed plans for the use of rammed earth—an ancient, eco-friendly technique—have been finalized to ensure the school is sustainable and built to last.
</div>
