<div>Unser kleiner Sohn Mattis ist schwer krank. Mattis ist 3,5 Jahre alt und leidet am Menkes-Syndrom, einer sehr seltenen genetischen Stoffwechselerkrankung, die sein Leben und unsere Familie von Grund auf verändert hat. Seine Lebenszeit ist begrenzt.

<div>Mattis leidet unter einer schwer therapierbaren Epilepsie, einer ausgeprägten Muskelschwäche und einer starken Sekretbildung, die das Atmen erschwert. Außerdem neigt er zu häufigen Infekten, die schnell zu einer Bronchitis oder Lungenentzündung werden können.

<div>Letztes Jahr erlebten wir, wie schnell sich sein Zustand verschlechtern kann: Mattis hatte eine sehr schwere Lungenentzündung und musste 4,5 Wochen im Krankenhaus verbringen. Er bekam eine Pleuradrainage und eine nicht invasive Maskenbeatmung. Diese Zeit hat uns noch einmal deutlich vor Augen geführt, wie schnell es in die falsche Richtung gehen kann.

<div>Mit Beginn der Infektzeit steigt auch jetzt wieder die Angst um ihn. Derzeit ist er wieder stark erkältet und muss mit Sauerstoffgaben unterstützt werden.

<div>Er kann nicht sitzen, laufen oder sprechen und doch zeigt er uns jeden Tag auf seine eigene Weise, wie stark er ist und wie viel Liebe in ihm steckt.
</div>

</div>
<div>Jeder Tag ist eine Herausforderung. Zwischen Arztterminen, Therapien und der ständigen Sorge um seine Gesundheit versuchen wir, ihm so viel Liebe wie möglich zu schenken und schöne Erinnerungen zu sammeln. Unsere Familienurlaube bzw. Entlastungsurlaube finden im Kinderhospiz statt.

<div>Wir mussten aus unserem ehemaligen Reihenhaus, das wir vor Mattis Geburt kernsaniert haben, in einen Bungalow umziehen, damit die Versorgung von Mattis vernünftig erfolgen kann. Der Umzug und der damit verbundene behindertengerechte Umbau haben uns finanziell an den Rand des Machbaren gebracht.

<div>Ein Herzenswunsch von uns ist es, einen Baum im Friedwald zu erwerben. Für uns soll dies ein Ort sein, an dem wir zur Ruhe kommen, Kraft schöpfen und irgendwann wieder als Familie vereint sein können.
