Eileen's fight against Guillain Barre Syndrome

Recently, tragedy befell the family of our dear friend and co-worker Geraldo, as his wife Xiomara (Eileen) was suddenly diagnosed with a rare disorder.
Guillain Barré Syndrome, also known as G.B.S. is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the nerves. Weakness and tingling in the extremities is usually an early sign. Eventually, the sensations spread, leading ultimately to total paralysis. Eileen has been bedridden and unable to control her limbs since early October 2019.
The exact cause of G.B.S. is unknown, but it is often preceded by another infectious illness. At this moment, there is no known cure for this disease, and the treatment that exists can only ease the symptoms. Most patients with this disease will ultimately recover, but the rate of recovery varies widely from patient to patient.
Eileen is currently in rehabilitation, after having spent an extended stay in the hospital, and requires 24/7 assistance. Needless to say, even after insurance coverage, the out of pocket expenses associated with such drastic measures are incredibly expensive, and have already exceeded $100,000.
For this reason we are reaching out to the community, friends, family, and coworkers alike, to ask for help. Many of us have known Eileen and Geraldo's family for decades, and they have been like an extended family to us. The couple has four children.
Even the smallest amount will help ease the tremendous financial burden on the family, and hopefully get Eileen back out of danger in the short term.
