ISV Summer 2015

Donation protected
Hi Friends! I have some very cool news to share.

A few weeks ago I attended an informational meeting at my university for this organization known as International Student Volunteers. As the name suggests, it is a volunteer group that facilitates the participation of college students on various projects in six different countries – Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, South Africa, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic. These projects can either be involved in community building (building infrastructure, teaching children, etc) or in species conservation (monitoring and surveying local species, operating rescue and rehabilitation centers, etc).
As a participant of this program I will travel to one of the six host countries (which is assigned to me at a later date) and for 2 weeks I will be a part of a volunteer project in that area. Here are some global achievements for ISV in 2013:

• 220,000 hrs volunteering in six countries (Australia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic & Thailand) 27,614 hrs teaching English, Music, Recreation, Conservation & Health programs to 4,102 children
• 8,570 endangered sea turtle eggs protected & relocated
• 220,016,265 seeds potted for planting
• 237,230 native trees, grasses & shrubs planted
• 26,773 hrs surveying & monitoring native & endangered species
• 2,545 hrs composting & waste management initiatives
• 6,292 kg / 13,871 lbs Trash materials collected

After the 2 week volunteer portion of the trip there is a 2 week adventure portion. Woo! This involves a number of exciting outings around the host country, sightseeing and experiencing the local culture.

ISV is a legitimate program! I promise! I encourage you to take a look at their website and look at some of the great work they have accomplished.

Now, at this informational meeting I filled out an application to be a participant in this program. They only accept about 40-50 people from each school that the representatives visit. I am writing this letter to you today because I am one of those accepted applications!

I was able to make the $600 deposit thanks to some lovely donors so now I can start fundraising for the rest! It is quite a large chunk of change but like I've said before, this is an incredible opportunity.

The program costs about $4000 USD (including the $600 deposit) but this does not cover airfare, a portion of meals, or any other extra expenditures.

The $4000 covers: accommodations, all meals during the two week project, at least half of the meals during the two week tour, ground transportation within the host country, a minimum of five activities during the tour, project leader and tour leader, project host organization fees, administration and recruitment, program set-up, orientation in the host country, Travel Manual and ISV T-shirt.

What is not included in the cost: international or domestic flights, passport or tourist visa, insurance, vaccinations, academic credit, spending money, optional activities or optional excursions.

Please, please, please donate and/or share my page.

Thank you for your time! Please help me help our home.

With love,
London
