Wade & Mandy's IVF Treatment

Hello everyone! Let me start off by thanking you for taking a moment to check out our GFM page. Also, we have never been ones to ask for help especially when it comes to financing one of our ventures. We have always taken pride in being able to independently support ourselves, but even we know our limitations. So here's our story.

My husband and I have been happily married for 6 years this past November. As most young couples, we were working on a 5 year plan (marriage, school, careers then children). Well, our 5 year mark came up and as many of you know-life doesn't always follow our simple, neat "plans". In fact, life has a funny way of showing us that we are not always in control. You see, 4 years into our marriage I was diagnosed with grave's disease which is a hyper-thyroid disease that attacks your thyroid tissue and requires that you either surgically remove the thyroid, or have the thyroid tissue killed with radio active iodine treatments. I chose the latter simply because I was afraid of having surgery. I was told by my specialist not to even think about trying to conceive until a year after my RAI treatment or it could adversely effect the pregnancy. Also, they had to level out my thyroid hormones to sustain a healthy pregnancy to begin with. My husband was diagnosed as a young child with Cystic Fibrosis and was told he would never be able to father a child naturally or without medical assistance. However, I was an optimistic person hoping that he would be the 1% out of 99% that the male infertility statistic wouldn't apply to. I refuse to give up on my dream of one day becoming the mom I've always envisioned myself being. We have looked into adopting through the state and was told that it could take several years for us to be placed with a child within our specifics. Also, adopting through a private agency happens to cost somewhere around the neighborhood of $20K-$30K. IVF being as expensive as it is, looks like our cheapest and quickest option to achieve our goal of parenthood. IVF costs range anywhere from $15K-$18K (not covered by our insurance) which includes the pre-exam, hormone drugs, specialists fees, follow-up visits and the IVF procedure itself. Also, due to the nature of my husband's male infertility condition, we have to do a separate procedure to extract his sperm via the MESA procedure which is not covered by insurance and must be paid upfront- this procedure costs $3K.

IVF is very costly; financially, physically and emotionally. But for some of us, this is the only way we can achieve our dreams of being parents to a beautiful, healthy little baby. Thank you again for stopping by and reading our story. Any little bit you can offer will help us with our baby steps toward parenthood!

God bless you,

Wade & Mandy Bennage
