The Scriptures - May the glory of the Lord shine upon those hurting today and in the coming days, weeks, months and years! The world will never be as funny as it was with Joe Mike Baker in it!

Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Psalm 18:2 “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Still in shock today knowing that my cousin Joe Mike Baker is no longer with us on this earth. I've been thinking about what to write...it's human nature to try and make sense of everything, but I'm having a really hard time making sense of this.

It's always been my biggest fear that I'd get a phone call saying that my Mom, Dad, sisters, or wife have died. I honestly think about that almost everyday because i know that one day it's probably going to happen. Everybody eventually dies. We all know that, but its strange how most of us live our lives as if its not the case. We get caught up in our daily routines, jobs, or hobbies, while days, weeks, or months pass by without looking up at the people around us. The people we love who bring so much happiness and meaning to our lives.

Joe Mike was one of the exceptions to this. Not a day passed by that he didn't take time to post some kind of joke on FB, or a snap chat to simply say "good morning". It's obvious that he understood how important people and relationships are. And it's obvious how much of an impact that had on the people who know him... just read some of the posts on his FB page right now.

So, as I sit here trying to accept what's happened, this question keeps coming to my mind... "As Joe Mike looks down on all of us grieving over him, what would he want to say if he could somehow communicate?" There's obviously no way to really know the answer to that question, and it would be inappropriate for me to even speculate in public since so many people were closer to him than me. But I do know for sure the message that this tragedy has thus far communicated to me... Stop and tell the people you love that you love them... When you're with the people you love linger a few minutes longer than what's convenient, and when you hug them hold on to them a little bit longer and a lot tighter; because you never know when your time together will run out.

This is also a bold reminder that life goes on after our mortal bodies die. God has a purpose for your life here on earth, He loves you, and He wants you to spend eternity with Him. We are guaranteed to go through bad things on this earth because we have free will, but God sent his son Jesus Christ to this earth to go through every categorical pain and hurt in the human experience, even death itself. God sympathizes with our hurts because he's been through them too. Only He can provide the supernatural healing that a situation like this requires. Through our faith in Jesus Christ we have a great hope and promise that one day very soon we will spend eternity in Heaven with Him and reunite with our loved ones who also put their faith in Him. Make Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life.

The last thing I want to say to anyone who reads this is please pray for Joe Mikes family, specifically his wife, children, parents and siblings. Pray that God give them the grace to make through every second of every day. They desperately need our prayers... stop whatever you're doing right now and pray for them.

The true merit of a person is the impact they leave on others. To wake up this morning in the midst of such a tragic loss and see the overwhelming love so many people had for Joe Mike Baker is a testament to who he was. A great husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, coach and friend. No matter what the situation you could always count on him to make you laugh and smile. The world will be less brighter without him in it. Continue to pray for his family during this difficult time.
