Success!

The Eggs for Kids project in Kayunga Uganda that we helped launched with support from the GoFundMe community two years ago has been a success.

* 225 kids are now being served by the Hope 4 Life programs in Kayunga.

* They are benefiting from the increased protein in their diets from the eggs being provided by their own flock of chickens.

* The money raised from the sale of surplus eggs in the local market is covering all of the costs of maintaining and increasing the flock and is still able to contribute to the cost of running the school and other community services.

* The sustainability of the project we sought has been achieved.

Now it is time to launch an expansion of the project. Hope 4 Life director Ivan Mosing and his group, now plan to add a poultry egg incubator to the operation. The incubator will provide chicks for the existing flock of laying hens while offering incubation services, day old chicks and training to local farmers. A cooperative program will be developed for marketing eggs in Kampala where prices are 20-30% higher than in the local market.

The total cost of this project will be approximately $2500 (€2200). This amount includes the cost of acquiring a 528 egg capacity poultry incubator including a back up solar power source and initiating operations. I am a retired international small business advisor with many years of experience working with small business start-ups in developing countries. Ivan and Hope 4 Life have already proven themselves with their successful execution of the first phase of the project and their dedication to addressing critical needs in their community. I will be participating in the financing of the project myself and will maintain contact with Ivan as it is implemented. I am convinced that this small investment will yield big benefits for the children in Kayunga.
