We have BIG news! We are adopting again!
After spending several years researching, talking and praying about it, our family is finally moving forward to pursue international adoption. After spending just over eight years as foster parents and completing four adoptions via foster care, we are embracing a new season of life. All of us are beyond excited about this new adventure!!
We're gonna be honest....this is going to be an entirely new experience for us, (especially Nathan, whom has never been on a plane, much less visited a foreign country!) But we also know that we CAN do this, and we have an incredible village of family and friends that are here to help support us.
We are currently buried in mountains of paperwork, and learning lots of new phrases and acronyms like dossier, hague convention, USCIS, apostile, and what обичам те means ("I love you") in BULGARIAN.
As part of our adoption process, we have decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign. We felt torn about doing any fundraising for our adoption, and felt nervous to be vulnerable in sharing just how expensive this undertaking will be. It might surprise you to learn (as it was staggering for us!) that adopting from Bulgaria can run upwards of $50,000 per child, including travel. We know there are so many people in our life that would love to be a part of this experience, so if you feel compelled to help, we would be most grateful. We will keep everyone updated each step of the way! We are going to need about $15,000 in the first two months alone. Eek!
Our first step is completing a Hague-Compliant homestudy, followed by assembling our dossier to be sent to Sofia, Bulgaria. Then, once we are logged and approved, we can be formally matched with a waiting child that needs the permanency of a forever family. We selected an agency to work with that specializes in finding homes for the children that "are left behind" due to hard-to-place special needs because we have seen first hand in the difference a forever family makes.
Just as we were making this page, we got an email from an agency that a little guy was located that fit our areas of medical experience and he’s waiting for a forever family! God is making this happen fast! While we are feeling quite overwhelmed by all this, we are trying to take it one step at a time.
