The last several years have been very rough. In 2009, Kelly's father, Bill Hallin, was brutally murdered, beaten to death by a tenant (https://mylifeofcrime.wordpress.com/2009/07/06/william-hallin-murder-732009-chicago-il-former-tenant-martin-vega-charged-with-his-murder-no-bail/)
, in a building he owned, which left Kelly, as his executor, in charge of 2 buildings in the city which needed major repairs.  The building where he died was damaged when his body was set on fire, and insurance only covered part of the repairs.  There was no money left along with the buildings, so in order to sell the one where he was killed, we had to use our savings, including Jenn's retirement funds - thinking we would get it back from the sale.  And we are still paying taxes on a parcel of land that is in trust for his grandchildren. Well, things did not go as planned.  In the interim, we took in several friends and relatives who were homeless either as a result of the murder (one was our foster daughter who lived in the building where Bill was murdered, another was Bill's son/Kelly's Brother who became very depressed when his dad was killed) or for other reasons - none of whom could/would contribute to the household financially. In addition to all of this, we are the adoptive parents of 2 special needs kids who have multiple medical issues.  Em, who is 14, is developmentally disabled and has a mental illness.  It was discovered earlier this year that she also has a brain aneurysm that could burst at any time - surgery right now is not an option according to her neurosurgeon.  Joshua, who just turned 18, has autism spectrum disorder,  a seizure disorder that appears to be progressing, and hypertension.  He also suffers from depression.  They both require multiple visits to medical specialists each month, and constant supervision and support.  This means that Kelly has been a stay-at-home mom for 17 years.  Jenn is the primary provider for our family.  She is getting older and has developed her own health problems, including a dislocated disc in her spine and a partially torn rotator cuff.  We have multiple medical bills and use lots of money on travel to and from doctors and to pay for medication co-pays.   We do not regret doing this - we have always said we have an open door - but all of this caused us to fall behind on our mortgage and now we are in desperate need.  You see, on November 28, Jenn lost her job.  Our primary means of income disappeared.  We cannot support a family of 4 and continue to pay our bills, especially our mortgage, on unemployment alone.  We need money to bring our mortgage current as soon as possible.  We are trying to get a modification, but there is no guarantee that this will happen.  If it does, the money will still be used to pay down the mortgage so that we are ahead of the game rather than waiting to get into this situation again.  We have opened our doors to everyone for the past 23 years, and all we are asking is to get back some of what we have given.  We would be forever grateful for whatever you could give toward this goal.  We want to maintain our home and keep our kids where they feel safe and secure.  Thank you!
