<div>Merel (31) heeft helaas al een hele lange historie met kanker. Zowel haar oma als moeder testten positief op het BRCA1 gen (borstkanker gen). Na een heftige strijd is haar moeder op 37-jarige leeftijd hieraan overleden. Merel was toen 12 jaar.

<div>Op haar 24e kwam Merel erachter ook gendrager te zijn. Deze uitslag zorgde voor een stroomversnelling. In 2016 werden Merel en Bob vader van Floris en in 2018 maakte Maarten het gezin compleet. In 2019 trouwde Merel met haar grote liefde Bob en daarna zou Merel ook de preventieve operatie (borsten, eierstokken verwijderen) ondergaan. Totdat Merel eerder een knobbeltje in haar borst voelde en in november 2020 het verwoestende bericht kreeg: kanker met uitzaaiingen in haar oksel, borstbeen en sleutelbeen. Een snelgroeiend type, levensgevaarlijk.

<div>Twee jaar lang heeft zij als een leeuw gevochten tegen de kanker: chemotherapie, bestralingen, subito studie (stamceltransplantaties), twee borstamputaties, chemopillen en hormoontherapie. En met resultaat. 2022: schoon! Klaar voor het nieuwe leven en klaar met de kanker. Zo leek het tenminste..

<div>Begin juli had Merel wat ‘pijntjes’. Rugpijn, pijn in haar heupen, benen en scheenbenen. Na een PET-scan werd haar nachtmerrie werkelijkheid. Kanker, overal kanker. Uitgezaaid in haar lymfen, botten, lever en hoofd. Merel wordt nooit meer beter.

<div>Het is onduidelijk hoeveel tijd Merel nog met Bob, Floris (5) en Maarten (4) kan doorbrengen maar wij willen ervoor zorgen dat deze periode in ieder geval op financieel gebied zorgeloos zal zijn. Met het vooruitzicht van Merel zal werken op termijn ook onmogelijk zijn. Daarmee valt een deel van het inkomen weg. Het jonge gezin heeft helaas geen rekening gehouden met de hoge kosten van een uitvaart waardoor we deze actie hebben opgezet.

<div>We hopen met deze crowdfunding te zorgen dat Merel een prachtig afscheid krijgt. Een extra wens is om met deze actie te zorgen dat Bob na het afscheid voldoende ruimte heeft voor zijn verdriet en zich volledig op de jongens kan richten. Dit wordt al zwaar genoeg zonder Merel, laat staan met financiële zorgen.
