Help Julius Marry Molly!

Donation protected
Francine Argue sent me an email, and said, "Hey! What about setting up a Go Fund Me Account to help Pastor Julius raise the dowery funds to marry Molly?"

Since HEED doesn't initiate fundraising, but instead prays for the Holy Spirit to lead others to initiate, we waited for someone to lead. So here goes! Thanks, Francine!

Paying a dowery to marry the woman you love is so foreign to our culture, but very much a reality for Julius and Molly.

Julius & Molly met over 5 years ago in Bible college. Julius' face lights up whenever she calls. She also serves full time in ministry, & even came to the village for a week with her unity building ministry team. Julius said she blended in beautifully, & all the ladies loved her ministry. He was giddy as he told me what a joy it was to have her in the village, and the blessing she would be to serve the people with him. I've met sweet-spirited, tiny Molly, & it's clear she's smitten with Julius, too.
They have been patiently &  prayerfully petitioning God to make a way for them to marry. You see, they are of different tribes, & Molly's parents weren't in favor. They have blocked it & stalled it for over two years, hoping they would give up.

Julius & Molly's marriage would be a wonderful example to the villagers because he is Baganda & she is Ankole- the two tribal groups that live together, but separately, in our village. What a wonderful example of unity in Christ they would represent!

Molly's parents have finally agreed to let them marry if Julius will pay the traditional dowry for a boy from their tribe: 12 cows & 3 million shillings. Total price, about $15,000! Julius is thankful they have finally accepted him, and believes God will make a way.

It seems crazy to us for parents to require such a huge amount, but it's deeply rooted in their culture. Others in ministry in Uganda have confirmed that there isn't a way around paying the dowry. Normally, a boy's family & friends will help raise the "bride price," but Julius is an orphan living amongst the poorest of the poor.

The dowry prevents many couples from marrying, but Molly & Julius want to set a good example & officially marry in the church. They are trusting God to somehow provide.

He wants Molly to be his helpmate. He moved to the village where he collected water from a swamp, & started the church under a tree.  He hasn't taken a salary because he wants to demonstrate hard work to the villagers. He has sacrificially served The Lord. Molly would so beautifully compliment him & help him more effectively minister to the Ankole people in the village whose language he doesn't speak.

They would love to marry when we are there in October. God moved her parents' heart to agree after two years of refusing. Maybe God can make a way.

If you would like to help them, you can donate here or to save the fees, send a check to the HEED Office  noting "for Julius" at:
555 Walnut #6
Edmonds, WA 98020

Please feel no obligation. Our way in HEED is normally just to pray for needs unless someone initiates a fundraiser. We NEVER want anyone to feel pressured, and God somehow always seems to provide.

In Christ,

Julie
