Edwin’s Story
Hello Friends,
Our wise, warm, talented, brilliant, gifted, gorgeous, bright, soulmate Edwin needs our help.
On Sunday, Edwin was feeling weird on the left side of his body--enough so that he was concerned--and went to the ER. After 3 MRIs, some reflex tests, and some spinal cord tests, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, an autoimmune disease that is attacking his central nervous system.
Just like that, everything has changed. Edwin is a warrior dreamboat, (as you already know,) so he is still smiling and fighting and laughing and handling this all with more grace than you can shake a stick at. But he is now facing daily medical treatment and is currently not working at his day job.
At the moment, my very immediate concerns are simple: I would love for Edwin to have the following items, yesterday:
1) A printer/scanner. --Today I was at the hospital with Edwin while he received an infusion when he mentioned needing to go to Kinko's to print up some documents to process his disability insurance paperwork. I was like, "HELL NO YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR OWN PRINTER." He obviously has enough going on without extra errands. This is how I got the idea for this Caring Bridge campaign. I figured with all the love so many of us feel for Edwin, we could make this happen lickety-split.
2) A new laptop. --Once I got the idea for this campaign, I asked Edwin if he had any other immediate needs. That's when he told me about his computer. His screen is on the fritz. He's gonna need that laptop to email over the scanned documents AND to write brilliant poetry. He's a PC guy (way cheaper!) too so I have no doubt we can make this happen easily.
3) A totally fabulous wizardly bejeweled walking stick. --Edwin is using a cane now for assistance in getting around. At the hospital, he mentioned that he would like a glammed out one. And I think he deserves one.
GANDALF CANE DISCLAIMER: He thinks it is terrible that I mention this. Therefore, I will take all the blame for posting this here. I, Rachel Kann, hereby state that it is I who thinks that Edwin should definitely have this glorious cane of which he dreams. Let's make it happen.
Above and beyond these immediate issues, I would love if we could create a cushion of love and support for Edwin.
Thank goodness he has insurance and hopefully the disability claim will go through and all will be well. But these still represent limited resources. He still has all his pre-existing bills and expenses, and the medical expenses are piling up. Any penny will help.
Thank you for reading. And thank you for all the love and prayers for Edwin!
Best,
Rachel
