We all arrived to Australia with goals, dreams and hope. Everyone motivated for their own reasons.
Some of us migrate with the purpose of study, work, exploration, travel, to get ahead and achieve our goals.
But what happens when suddenly something unimaginable interferes with all those goals and dreams?
What if you where trying to achieve all of that and a terrible disease stopped you?
This is the situation that one of our mates is living today.
He is a son, a brother, a husband, a colleague and a friend of ours. Today we want to knock on your doors to ask for your help.
THIS IS EDWIN’S STORY.
Edwin is 29 years old, he is from El Salvador and he has been living in Brisbane for about 3 years. He was living a normal life with his wife, working and studying like most of us, following their dreams here in Australia. A place where opportunities are endless for people like Edwin, a guy full of joy and good attitude.
A couple of months ago he went to the doctor because he was feeling a severe pain in his back. At first the doctors discovered a mass in his back and after further exams they discovered the real cause. Edwin was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
He underwent 8 months of chemotherapy sessions and after the severe treatment, despite of the sadness and pain he was feeling Edwin managed to overcome his illness. He won the battle against cancer. But sadly, this is not the happy ending of this story.
Edwin was supposed to have another surgery to remove the tumour from his back completely. However, new exams show that the testicular germ cell tumour is back and therefore he cannot undergo the surgery. This has given him so much stress as his insurance doesn't cover 100% of his illness, so most of the money is out of his pocket.
He had already asked for money from the bank here in Australia and also in El Salvador to cover the first treatment. This time is different, even though he is receiving some help from the hospital to cover part of the second treatment, he still needs to pay for all the exams, scans, blood tests and medicines.
Due to the severity of his illness and the consequences of the treatment he cannot work or study anymore until he is 100% recovered. Edwin and his family would welcome any financial support that you can offer so he can continue receiving the cancer treatment and keep following his dreams. And hopefully win the battle against cancer once and for all.
