The New Brunswick Rowing team will be joining hundreds of other young athletes from across Canada in Winnipeg at the 50th Canada Summer Games (CSG). Our goal is to raise enough money for a new four person rowing racing shell (called a Quad) to compete in at CSG.
We are seeking a significant investment in not only equipment, but also in the young athletes who wake up early and train hard daily to be the best at what they do. A new shell could shave 12-14 seconds off finishing times, which could mean the difference between a medal or not. This is a substantial amount of time when places are determined by hundredths of a second in some cases. The race shells will be used by four of our teams at the CSG; the women’s and men’s quads and fours. The new race shell will be maintained by the Fredericton Rowing Club, a not for profit club, in our capital city. After CSG the shell will be part of a strictly racing fleet that will be used by Competitive Masters & Juniors as they compete at regional, national, and international competitions.
Our team has been fundraising hard. We’ve held numerous bottle and clothing drives, BBQs and bake sales between our multiple practice rowing sessions per day, school, volunteer work and part time jobs. The team is made up of dedicated, successful athletes as well as top-notch students and we’re now going out into the community to ask for support.
