Edward Haygood Memorial Fund

Ed Haygood passed away on Sept. 8th, 2018 in a VA facility after a long and brutal battle with skin cancer.

He was a man with a big voice, a warm heart, and a wicked sense of humor--even in the midst of his suffering, he could turn a room full of tension into one of belly laughs. His happiest places on this earth were landscaping his yard, coaxing it into bloom; in the kitchen whipping up a batch of clam chowder or a heavenly pie crust for a family meal; or spending the entire day fishing on the lake with loved ones.

Above all Ed was a fighter. He grappled with congestive heart failure that led to a heart transplant in 2007. When cancer hit he underwent radiation, multiple surgeries (including one involving a large skin graft), and finally chemotherapy when the cancer moved inside his body. Through it all he plowed forward and was a favorite among the nurses for his jokes and good nature.

His loss has left a gaping hole in our family, one which will be felt not only on holidays and birthdays, but each time we cook in our kitchens, tend to our gardens, or breathe in the beauty of a lake. His loss has also left a financial struggle for his wife of 41 years, who is managing funeral costs, remaining medical bills, and basic living expenses in the wake of his passing. All donations (minus processing fees) will go toward these needs and would be a great gift to our family.

Thank you,
The Haygood Kids
