Edward Bowling (TED) funeral fund

Donation protected
My name is Donna Armstrong and my husband Trevor and I are hoping to raise funds to provide a funeral service for a dear friend of ours that became a member of our family.

Edward Bowling was a wonderful and giving man who enjoyed simple things and didn’t ask much of anyone. He was known to our children, grandchildren, our friends and especially our canine family. For many years Trevor and I couldn’t go anywhere together because of our pets and often it was me and the kids or him and the kids.

Ted as he was fondly known to us changed our lives and became the best dog-sitter and best friend to our pets that anybody could ask for. The security of seeing how much they loved Ted brought us so much relief and allowed us to do things as a whole family so easily.

A couple of years ago Ted found himself in a position of having no residence and there was a small unoccupied flat at the back of our shop so we offered it to Ted not in relation to being a tenant but more so that a man of his age didn’t deserve not to have a home and he was such a help to us in so many ways. Ted soon became a big part of our daily life particularly for Trevor, also spending the last 2 Christmas’s with us.  My son’s dog spent more time with Ted than he did my son as Ted had contact with Butch nearly every day while my son was at work. Zac has always said that Ted was Butch’s 2nd Dad.

Ted didn’t mention much of family over the 13 or so years that we have known him, although we were aware that some recent contact had been made. We also recently became aware that he had 2 daughters and several grandchildren.

Unfortunately Ted passed away in the early hours of Tuesday 18th September from what was a massive heart attack just shy of his 67th birthday.

Teds family members have been contacted but they have informed that they do not have the resources to have any sort of service or funeral and have applied for a destitute funeral which does not allow for any service or attended burial or cremation.

I have been made aware that Ted’s family have basically been estranged from him for probably around 20 years and although there was recent contact it appeared to be a fairly slow process which is understandable. We do not want to judge them in any way but have come to the realisation that we feel that Ted deserves more.

We cannot just accept that he may be farewelled in the same manner that perhaps a homeless person, unidentified person or someone considered as having “no-one” would be farewelled because he touched so many lives and it would not be a true reflection of his life.

We would like to provide the opportunity for those that knew, loved and appreciated Ted to speak of their memories of him and farewell him together with dignity, respect and integrity.

We are sure that for every story or memory that we hold dear, many others in our community would have so many more.

On behalf of many of the locals in our small town called Wingham, particularly on behalf of Ted’s dear friends such as Carol and Mako, we would like to ask for your support in obtaining enough public assistance to farewell a very kind and loved member of our community in the manner that he deserves.

Ted will be cremated and his ashes will at some point be scattered at Crowdy Beach where he used to surf.  We will also endeavour to provide a wake following his cremation if possible.

Regardless of how much we are able to gather from the support of people through gofundme, Trevor and I have decided that we will be responsible for the short fall no matter what. Unfortunately that may require us to seek a loan but we have been fortunate enough to have the support from Tranquility Funerals in that they will give consideration to our circumstances in regard to costing.

We would appreciate any contribution that people can provide, we have no expectations and would have preferred to be able to afford to just take care of this ourselves so even the smallest support of a couple of dollars will be that couple of dollars less for us to find.

Thank so much for your consideration of our request.

Butch, Moe and Neecy miss you so much Ted.
