School Supplies for Nusa Penida

Hi my name is Gay Riches,

We have been raising funds for much needed school supplies for the children, on Nusa Penida (adjacent to Bali, Indonesia) for nearly 3 years.

In 2016 we were able to raise $6000 and we bought stationary for over a 1000 children.

In 2017 we  raised almost another $6000, which enabled us to once again reach over 1000 children from the 52 schools on Nusa Penida, with school supplies and sporting equipment. We also donated a water tank to one of the schools without water.

We have been unable to zero the account, however we hope to take our fundraising this year 2018 to a further $6000.

The school packs we provide cost approximately $4 and contain 10 exercise books, 10 pens, a ruler, a rubber and 10 lead pencil. This will last each child one year.

 As an important part of the project volunteers are personally handing these packs to the children in each school.

The children and staff are always so grateful.

We would like to spend some time this year assisting more schools that need water tanks and also help schools that are in desperate need of sporting equipment.

Most Nusa Penida families are very poor and although Primary School education is free, the families must supply stationery and uniforms. This means many families have to make tough choices when it comes to providing the basics for their children to succeed in the classroom.

 All funds raised are solely used for the purchase and distribution of the school supplies.  All volunteers incur their own costs for airfares, accommodation and any additional expenses.
