When you think of limited resources, what do you think of? Oil? Water?
What about education?
In Haiti, most schools are private, requiring parents to pay for books, uniforms, and tuition. With a population that has nearly 80% unemployment, it is considered the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and it is common that children miss years of school or don't finish the school year because of a lack of finances.
That is why we started New Light School. All of the 200 beautiful and bright children aged 3-14 attend free of charge. If they don't have a uniform, they are welcome to come to school in whatever clothes they do have.
That's because we believe that children should not miss years of education simply because their parents can’t afford to pay for school.
In September of last year, we partnered with a local pastor who desired to rejuvenate his dying school that had suffered financially in years past. After a short time we realized that in order to have financial integrity, we would no longer be able to work with that pastor.
We moved the school to a large open space on our home property. There, we built a temporary structure and furniture for the classrooms. The walls are made of weaved coconut leaves and the roofs are simply draped tarps. During these transitions we've fallen behind in paying our teachers.
In spite of the current circumstances, we want to see the school year finish strong!

100% of every dollar will go straight towards catching up with teacher salary payments and complete the budget to run the school for the remainder of the school year.
