Within the last year I met a young man in our church from Jamaica who impressed me with his faith, work ethic, character and integrity. He is enrolled in a 3 year local college program as an international student endeavouring to be a responsible, hard working family man. Then COVID 19 struck. And we know it affected some more than others, and some devestatingly so.  During this time, Edwin’s work hours were significantly reduced, which affected his ability to save monies for college tuition, to support himself in Canada, and to support his family in Jamaica. Yes, Edwin financially supports himself here in Canada as well as his family in Jamaica! And, he lost a very significant person in his life; his beloved grandmother. With COVID 19 restrictions on travel and with no immediate or extended family here, Edwin has grieved alone.

Here is a young man, an international student, alone in Canada seeking to better himself and his situation, and to become a contributing member of society through a college diploma, which eludes him at this point.

You know that Edwin is a committed student as he
 has already completed one year of studies financed by working and obtaining scholarships. He will continue to work part time during the academic year.

Did you know that college tuition for international students exceeds $15,000 per year with books and supplies being additional costs not to mention housing, food, transportation, insurance, etc???

Edwin's goal is to finance his third year of studies independently, so would you please be so kind as to help him attend his second year without academic interruption - sometimes an interruption in studies eventuates in a loss of education altogether!

Time is of the essence as $8,000 is due September 5, 2020.

A Jamaican proverb says: "Every mickle make a muckle!" which means, every little you do adds up to something big.  Any donation is appreciated.

Hi, my name is Edwin.

One year ago, I arrived in this country with all the hopes and dreams of my family, for the future, resting on my shoulders. It was to pursue and complete tertiary education that has many times in the past seem to evade me.

I started and completed my first year at Conestoga College, where I am pursuing a 3-year, advanced diploma in Supply Chain and Operations Management. It was the intent for my family to be here with me during this period to provide any additional support needed, but things went terribly wrong and COVID-19 is the situation that has made it terribly worse. Not only am I separated from my family and have had to deal with death in the family but have had to struggle to provide support to them there while trying to maintain myself here. Add to this tuition fees which are enormous, it just has not come together.

 The job scene for the summer did not work out in light of COVID events, and now I find myself faced with the decision to put off school to try and get funds together, but that poses problems for my status amongst other things. Therefore, this is me humbly asking any willing heart to help me break this cycle of incompletion due to financial struggles by donating to my education.

 I have passed all my courses over the past year with all A’s except for one B+, which has enabled me to maintain a 3.84 GPA (out of 4.0). Know that you would be investing in someone that will not make your donations go to waste. What is impossible for one, can be achieved by many.
