Cambodia Teaching Program
After a few visits to Cambodia, the people living in poverty and the place has touched me. I've always wanted to help out in some way but time has always restricted me from doing do. Now that I'm studying again, this is my opportunity. So I've applied and have been accepted to participate in a volunteer teaching program in Cambodia in January 2014 for 28days in a village school located in Kro Bei Riel Commune in Siem Reap with Reach Out Volunteers. YAY! :D
I'll be working with the local teachers to deliver their current education program and assist with their lesson planning to help the kids develop life skills within their village, proceed into high education to further their employment prospects.
This is my chance to give back to the less fortunate and will be donating more than just my time.
"Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in Asia and life is tough for most of the population. The average annual income per head is $2,000.00 and only 36% of the population has access to safe drinking water.
The young are pushing themselves, and their nation, out of poverty. They relentlessly pursue education, they work hard to complete high school and they strive and hope for a university education. The ability to speak English is a much sought after skill as it provides entry to a large and rapidly growing industry. Skilled speakers are hard to find and teachers are even fewer".
The program takes place in the village school located in Kro Bei Riel Commune, a short cycle ride outside the town of Siem Reap. The school provides educational opportunities for over 1000 disadvantaged children and young adults.
Classes are provided in English, Computing, Arts, Crafts, Music, Sports, Organic Farming, Hospitality, Social Work as well as providing education on hygiene, nutrition and environmental issues.

I won't be able to do this without the support - so every little bit helps :)
